Flying For A Sustainable Future
When we think of flying, the words ‘eco-friendly’ are probably not the first that come to mind. However, here at Airbourne Aviation we are taking our first steps towards a sustainable future for flight training.
Back at the start of the year, we introduced the Pipistrel Velis Electro to our fleet – the first ever type-certified, electric-powered aircraft fully approved for pilot training in Day VFR operations.

An Electrifying First for Air Racing
One of eleven aircraft taking part, the Velis Electro, piloted by Cliff alongside navigator Roger Scholes, raced with a handicap speed of 90kts. Although they didn’t win any trophies this time, their demonstration of what can already be achieved with electric flight has opened the eyes of many to what the future of aviation may look like.

Electric Aircraft Differences Training
The UK CAA permits the Pipistrel Virus 128 Velis Electro to be flown on either a SEP (Land) Class Rating, SSEA (Land) Class Rating, or LAPL(A) with SEP (Land) Privileges.
In all cases, completion of electric aircraft differences training is required, with completion of the differences training endorsed in the pilot’s logbook.

Time to get your tailwheel endorsement?
Learning to fly a tail wheel, certainly helps to improve your stick and rudder coordination. Our tailwheel EuroFox is a fun and rewarding aircraft to fly.

New ownership for Airbourne Aviation
Aviator Cliff Hawkins is now comfortably at the helm, or even the cockpit, after his takeover deal of Airbourne Aviation was completed Thursday 3rd August.

Why you should choose Microlights
When people hear the word ‘microlight’, they quite often have that image of the flexwing type or weight-shift type where you have a delta-shaped wing like a paraglider under which trike is attached containing the aeronauts.
Known as ‘ultralights’ for our friends in the States, there is also another type of microlight. These are 3 axis fixed-wing microlights. These aircraft are much like conventional aircraft but have 2 seats and are much smaller in their overall weight.
